Dr. Christopher Atwood
President

As a nationally recognized leader of public interest organizations and religious congregations, and a highly successful sales and marketing executive for small businesses, Chris Atwood has helped bring an unprecedented level of profile and resources to each of the enterprises he has served.

During his tenure as Executive Director of the Tennessee Alliance for Strong Communities, Dr. Atwood received "The 1990 Local Organizing Award" from his organization's national congress for his leadership in educating the public and its legislators about the impact of Cold War-era federal budget priorities on his state's economy and viability at funding critical community needs programs.

As President of Energy Literacy Advocates, Dr. Atwood heads the Denver office and is the primary organization spokesperson. He also guides ELA ’s marketing, PR, and fundraising efforts. Long concerned about issues of energy conservation and renewable energy development, Dr. Atwood considers the country's current foreign oil dependency to be the defining moral challenge of our time, and one of the chief threats to our national security, our national economy, and the sustainability of our global environment.

Dr. Atwood graduated with honors in English literature from the University of Texas. He holds a Masters in religion from Vanderbilt Divinity School, where he graduated with honors and received awards in theology and preaching. His doctoral studies at the University of Chicago centered on public speaking and organizational leadership.

Dr. Atwood is an ordained Congregationalist minister, and a life-long student of modern poetry and baseball history. He resides in Denver with his wife, Dorea, and their four children.

Energy Literacy Advocates (ELA) is a non-partisan, non-profit, public education organization working to improve the energy literacy of all sectors of our democracy.
