Energy Literacy Advocates (ELA) is a non-partisan, non-profit, public education organization working to improve the energy literacy of all sectors of our democracy.

William Kaufman

Bill Kaufman has been a resident of Loveland, Colorado for twenty-nine years, and a practicing attorney for almost that entire period. He was born and raised in Nappanee, Indiana where he graduated from high school in 1967. He has a degree in political science and history from Indiana State University (1972), and a law degree from Emory University (1976).

Bill was a member of the United States Air Force Reserves from 1969 through 1977, where he was a flying medic, and rose to the rank of staff sergeant. He has been active in the Methodist Church; the Rotary Club of Loveland; the Boy Scouts of America where he has been a Scoutmaster, and is presently the Longs Peak Council Attorney and a member of the Board of Trustees. Bill is also an Eagle Scout.

From 1992 through 2000, Bill represented Estes Park and Loveland as a member of the Republican party in the Colorado House of Representatives. During his four terms in office he served eight years on the House Judiciary Committee, four years as vice-chairman and two years as chairman; four years on the House Transportation and Energy Committee; eight years on the Joint House/Senate Committee on Legal Services, one year as chairman; two years on the Local Government committee; and as Speaker pro-tem of the House of Representatives in the 1999 - 2000 term.

In addition to serving on the Energy Literacy Advocates Board of Advisors, Bill also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Meals on Wheels of Loveland, and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the McKee Medical Center Foundation. Bill is also serving his first four year term as a member of the Colorado Transportation Commission having been appointed by Governor Bill Owens in July, 2003. In that capacity he is also a member of the Colorado Tolling Authority Board.

During his twenty-nine years in Larimer County, Bill has been active in the County and State Republican Parties. He has three times been the Larimer County Republican Party Chairman; a member of the State Republican Party Executive Committee; a volunteer on many U.S. House and Senate campaigns including those of Sen. Bill Armstrong, Sen. Hank Brown; and Sen. Wayne Allard.

Presently Bill resides in Loveland with his wife, Mary.
